All things Dublin, with bits of Liverpool

Better late than never!

I'm having a serious catch up on the blog today, starting way back when in August, a month filled with birthdays! Along with my 23rd and my Dad's 51st it was also my Mum's 50th. With many activities in Liverpool and Dublin, here are my top picks of places you HAVE to go to when you rendezvous in either of these cities (excluding the foodie heavens mentioned in my last post).

1. Cycle from New Brighton to West Kirby, a regular trip for the outdoorsy people of this area but something different for us Rossendalians and city goers. This is also where the Red Arrows come out and practice, so you never know, you might catch a free show.

Spot those Red Arrows!

2. Panoramic 34, Liverpool. I'm not sure there's many words that could do justice to this view and extravagant food so I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves. It's a very special place, great for those one-off occasions.

3. Bacaro, Liverpool. If you're looking for unreal tasting food, and something that won't break the bank but is posher than a Nando's then this place is perfect. It's also the greatest for social eating as you swap and share plates and create a bubble of love and joy. Unbelievable.

4. The Pieman Cafe, Temple Bar, Dublin. We're across the water now, touching down in Dublin and of course, straight to the hub of pubs and grub that is Temple Bar. We couldn't have started in a better place, this cafe's pies are homemade and full of great tasting particles that melt your mouth before finishing you off with a Banoffee Pie or gooey Brownie - this place is a must.

5. The Old Storehouse, Temple Bar, Dublin. Another Temple Bar goldie with the atmosphere, incredible food and of course, Guinness (and blackcurrant!). This pub encompasses Dublin's friendly disposition with traditional music, joyful people and the best chicken burger I've ever had.

6. Riverdance, 21, The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin. There are no words. Most people think of Riverdance and probably think they won't enjoy it but if you do one thing in your lifetime, let it be to allow Riverdance to prove you wrong. This cleverly articulated theatre performance is filled with traditional Irish music that gives you a sense of journey and family love. The dancers speedy footwork is mind blowing and portrays a talent mastered from years of hard work. It really is a performance that leaves you feeling warm, overjoyed and inspired. Once you Riverdance, you'll never go back.

7. WUFF, Dublin. Breakfast of champions.

8. The Guinness Storehouse, Dublin. You can't go to Dublin and not go to the Guinness Factory, book online in advance and it's even cheaper. Well worth it, if not just for the view at the end from the Gravity Bar.

9. Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin. If you're looking for something cultural, then this is a learning experience for you. Go back in time and learn how this jail operated, including all the things they didn't want you to know.

10. Open Top Bus, Dublin. There's three different companies operating throughout the city, each with a slightly different route so make sure you check each one and determine which suits your needs best. Work out their stops as well, it took us a while to actually get on one! This aside, an open top bus is a must in any city! It's a relaxing way to make sure you don't miss anything out. With so many things to do and see it's better that you at least see them from the top of a bus, as opposed to not at all.

The hotel we stayed in was The Ashling Hotel and it was pretty near perfect, with cosy rooms and all the amenities, great food on offer and close to all city links we didn't need anything more.

Here's to being happy.
